Drawing from dance, music and poetry, Blanca Li, David Grimal and Abd al Malik pay tribute to Stravinsky’s century-old ballet with a bold and militant re-reading that highlights its enduring visionary spirit.

As far back as 1913, Le Sacre du printemps was a work of full consciousness. This 2023 version is just as much a manifesto: the three creators imagine that they are “people all together”, and that the interweaving of their artistic disciplines will give birth to the voice of a reunified plural society. On stage, a motley crew, each with his or her own place, takes Stravinsky’s score in hand and gives it its contemporary colors: twenty dancers who have emerged from the conventional circuits and been initiated into the writing of the Franco-Spanish choreographer, the musicians’ collective Les Dissonances, the electronic music composer Bilal, often Abd al Malik’s binomial, here a narrator, a reader and a rapper.

The performance on April 13 at 8pm is part of the Relax inclusive program. This enables people with disabilities (autism, multiple handicaps, intellectual disabilities, mental disabilities, Alzheimer’s disease, etc.) likely to lead to atypical and unpredictable behavior during the performance to enjoy a concert with the other spectators, experiencing their emotions without constraint, thanks to more flexible venue codes.

NOTRE SACRE

Notre Sacre is a musical and choreographic show presented in three parts, in which the artists gradually immerse the spectator in a spellbinding visual and musical universe. Inspired by one of the pinnacles of 20th-century Western classical music – created in Paris in 1913 – Le Sacre du Printemps, Blanca Li, Abd al Malik and David Grimal offer an audacious re-reading of the work.

DISTRIBUTION

Choreographer Blanca Li, rapper Abd Al Malik and violinist David Grimal combine their talents to celebrate the spirit of Le Sacre du Printemps. A contemporary and inclusive reinterpretation, Notre Sacre is a hymn to renewal.
